Maternity photoshoot is one of the happiest moments of a soon-to-be mother. Pregnancy is a special phase for any woman and is important to capture all the wonderful moments. Check out the list of fun things to do during pregnancy in my blog!

But with the “pregnancy brain” you might be missing out on little details on your shoot. This blog post helps you with the checklist needed!

Here are the helpful ideas that will help you on prepping for a great maternity photoshoot.

Maternity Photoshoot Tips

1. Choose a maternity dress

Picking a pretty dress is the very first and important step for your photoshoot. You can either choose a floral dress or a solid color dress based on your choice.

Find the matching outfits for your partner and kids as well. It will complement your looks.

There are many ideas on internet to choose from. I personally choose a pink floral long frock. Make sure to try the outfit in advance. Online maternity sizes can vary to a great extent. Try about 2 – 3 outfits before you buy one to avoid last minute disappointments.

2. Pick the place

Whether it is an outdoor or indoor shoot, choose a right place that is most comfortable for you.

Make sure it has a pleasant background. Picking a place totally depends on your personal taste and the circumstances. If the weather is very hot outside plan a relaxing indoor photoshoot.

If you are planning for an outdoor shoot, you can ideally look for parks with trees, lake with lotus flowers and swans or an old downtown with historic monuments.

3. Plan your photoshoot budget

Pregnancy photoshoot need not be an expensive thing. If it is out of your budget, you can look for startup photographers who are trying to build their portfolio. The usually offer for a very low price or some might even do it for free!

You can also search in Groupon, sometimes you can find very good deals. Some of them will offer very reasonable prices including digital prints.

If either of the above options does not work for you, check with your friends and relatives. They might be interested in volunteering for the photoshoot.

4. Headband

Feel like princess with a matching tiara. Choose matching yet simple floral head bands or tiaras that complements your dress. You will look elegant and special with this simple addition and adds special touch to your look. You can find lots of floral tiaras online, here is my favorite one.

5. Baby accessories

You can include customized baby onesies, cute baby footwear, ultrasound pictures as props during the photoshoot. They will look great on the pictures and a great way to make memories with some of your baby’s stuff.

6. Plan your maternity poses beforehand

There is a chance photographer might miss some of the cool poses. I recommend to research and save the poses you like in your library. This way you can see if all your favorite ones are covered or you can request for more.

7. Pamper yourself

Plan make up for the day and organize the way you want to look for the day. Take extra time to get your hair, manicure, pedicure done. Pamper yourself in your favorite ways.

8. Choose the perfect time

Somewhere around 34 weeks is ideal the perfect time for the maternity photoshoot. If you won’t feel too uncomfortable and even you will have a perfect flaunting bump. If you have a history of medical conditions or being induced soon, you can plan little earlier.

Happy photo-shoot!
