Looking to start job search? I had to search jobs every 8 months to 1 year due to relocation, maternity break or commute. I am a vigorous job searcher and here are my top tips that will help you find job faster.  

While building the right resume and proper profile is the key to find a job faster, you can improve your job search ways to increase the chance of finding a new job.

  1. LinkedIn  
    • LinkedIn has genuine job posts. Try searching jobs in LinkedIn and click the Apply button to submit your resume. You can also write a post that you are looking for a new opportunity with 3-4 lines brief summary of your experience. Tag your friends for better reach and you post can be passed on to your friends network. 
  2. Indeed  
    • Indeed is also one of the best platforms. You can search for the key word of the position you are looking for and desired location. You will find jobs related to this. Indeed also has genuine job posts. Indeed will keep you updated on your submitted resume progress.  
  3. Craigslist  
    • Craigslist is known for lot of local jobs. You will find many jobs that you can apply. But you need to be careful as many of the posts may be fake. Always, look for the company details, the person posted the Ad and other details before you schedule for the interview. Alternatively, you can try posting in “Job Needed” section, specifying your experience and type of role you are looking for. You might receive a few proposals that you can look into. 
  4. Local newspapers  
    • Newspapers also has a lot of new job postings, keep checking them on daily basis. While technology jobs may not be posted in the newspaper, you can always find local part-time jobs if you are looking for one. 
  5. Use google to search for a company and give a call  
    • You can look up for nearby companies or stores based on your job type and try giving them a call to see if there are any openings. Mention them you are local and available for the interview. It is likely that you may land with interviewing opportunity.  
  6. Reach out to FAANG recruiters  
    • FAANG – Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google is together called FAANG. If your job nature matches with the type of positions these companies recruit , it is worth contacting a recruiter. You can find recruiters on LinkedIn and connect with them. Leave them a message through InMail or by send an invite to connect, that you are looking for a new opportunity. Fortunately, FAANG and other major companies are always in the recruiting process, you are most likely to get an interview with them. 
  7. Friends and Relatives 
    • It is always worth trying internally. Try calling up friends and relatives who might help you with the related job and check with the if they know any opening they are aware of.  
  8. Consultancies and recruiting firms  
    • It is highly recommended in joining a consultancy or a recruiting firm if you need to find a job as soon as possible. These firms usually have so many opportunities in hand and you are more likely to find a job sooner.  

Job search is tedious and time consuming process. The average job finding time is about 2 – 3 months. Don’t lose hope and keep trying
