Many women develop hemorrhoids after giving birth especially with a vaginal delivery.
It is caused by swelling of anal and rectal muscles and is very painful. It hurts a lot
to sit, stand and to even walk.
This situation adds additional pain while recovering with the labor and dealing with
sleepless nights of newborn. I was so happy when I delivered the baby naturally, but
External Hemorrhoids, honestly I did not see this coming.
I was having a hard time to had my baby latch because I could not even sit in a proper
position due to extreme pain. It lasted for about 2 weeks and I will share few tips that
helped me during this tough times.
DONUT PILLOW
Using a donut pillow had given me a great relief. This is one of the best
things I bought during postpartum and is a lifesaver! I was able to sit only when with this
pillow else I used to be great pain. I highly recommend investing in this.
TUCKS PADS
Tucks pads are the cooling hemorrhoid pads that will help reduce swelling,
inflammation and pain. I used to wipe and apply the pads for about 10
minutes 4 times a day. This will soothe the pain and relieve from discomfort. I bought it from Amazon, check it out here!
ICE PACKS
Place the ice pack on the area multiple times a day. This helped me reduce the
swelling faster and little relief from pain.
REST ON ONE SIDE
It might not be comfortable sleeping on back given the pain. Sleeping on side
will make you more comfortable.
STOOL SOFTENERS
Constipation and hard stools are common after giving birth, but not so fun
with external hemorrhoids. Hard stools sometimes lead to bleeding and add
fuel to the existing pain. Using doctor prescribed/recommended stool
softeners might help your bowel movements be easier.
FEEDING
It is pretty hard to sit in a comfortable position and feed the baby even with
the donut pillow. Although it is not recommended to introduce the bottle at
such a early to your child, if breastfeeding is hard, you can opt for pumping
milk. You can pump by sleeping on side temporarily until you recover from
the pain.
WIPING WITH WARM WATER
Try to always wipe with warm water after using the restroom. Warm sitz
baths can help a lot with the swelling.
PREPARATION H OINTMENT This last but not least, most killer tip that help ending my hemorrhoids’ is this over the counter ointment. I am so so grateful that I have used this cream, I saw a major reduction in pain and swelling in the next day or two after starting this ointment. This should be applied on the external hemorrhoids. Out of all the over the counter ointments, I highly recommend this. You can buy from amazon from here.
You did a great job for the 9 months taking care during pregnancy and should continue to take for the next 3 – 4 months during the post-partum.
No matter how hard or difficult you feel, stay strong and hang in there. Remember,
when your going gets tough, tough gets going. Tough times are going to pass soon.
Try to stay optimistic and positive which is the best remedy above of the all. After all,
Happy Wife, Happy Life Become the strength of your family.
NOTE: Always contact your doctor in case of too much pain or bleeding.
